Service Control Program

The Service Control Program (McisProServiceControl.exe) is run from the start menu under Axcis.  The program is used for configuration settings, testing, controlling the service and registration.

Status & Control Screen

The status screen shows the status of the component parts of MCIS Pro.  All should show green lights.  The Service is the main component and this may be controlled with  the buttons on the right.  The Gatherer is the Media Center State Aggregation sink (MSAS) and this should always be running.  The Responder is the TCP/IP Server which will normally be active whenever the Service is running.  The MCE line shows whether Media Center is active.  Additional information shown is the duration that the Service has been running and the rate of requests that the Server is responding to.  In order to get the latest status, press the "Refresh" button.

Configuration

To set optional settings, select "settings" from the "Edit" menu and then select the setting from the dropdown list. Either enter the new setting and press "Save" or select the default by pressing "Use Default". The full list of optional settings is given HERE. To use the new settings, restart the Service from the control screen and close and restart LCDSmartie.

To override TV Channel names, select "TV Channels" from the "Edit" menu and use the edit grid to make modifications.  The rows may be sorted by clicking on the title   To delete a row, click on the button and press the delete key.  Add rows at the bottom of the grid.  Duplicate channel numbers are not allowed.  Use the "Save" button to save the changes.  This will create an override file that is used to supply channel names.  To remove the override file and revert to the default names, select the "Delete Overrides" button.

Registration

When a license has been purchased, the key is entered using "Help", "Register".  Enter the name that was used when the license was ordered and the License Key that was issued.  Once MCIS Pro has been registered the trial popup screen will no longer be displayed and the "Unregistered" messages will no longer be displayed.  The "msg" and "msg2" values will default to blanks for the registered product.  The trial version and the full version of MCIS Pro are identical and it is not necessary to re-install the programs.

Testing

The "View" menu provides various test screens.  "Information" shows the main keys and their corresponding values.  "XML Form" gives all of the information available in an XML format; this is the same information obtained with a browser from the URL http://localhost:8421/mci/all.  "Event Log" shows values from the Application Event Log corresponding to the MCIS components.  Extra event information may be obtained by setting the "logging" configuration setting to "1".

"View", "Tests" provides a set of individual tests.  The Gatherer test obtains information directly from MSAS.  The Responder test is used to check the values returned from the TCP/IP server.  The Messenger test sets the "msg" key (or the "msg2" it the text starts with "2") and shows the result against the Responder test.
